Location Information

Richmond is 40 miles north-west of Sydney via Parramatta. Richmond War Cemetery is within Richmond General Cemetery, which is a mile and a half east of Richmond post office, on the north-western boundary of the aerodrome.

Historical Information

During the Second World War, Richmond Aerodrome was a base for squadrons of the Royal Australian Air Force engaged upon reconnaissance and submarine patrols, for the protection of shipping along the coast and to guard against possible attacks by carrier-borne Japanese aircraft of the principal towns and cities.

The war cemetery contains 25 Second World War burials, most of them of airmen. The general cemetery contains a further two war graves.
