Location Information

Hodister is a village and commune about 3 kilometres north of the road between La Roche-en-Ardenne and Marche. It is 8 kilometres west of La Roche, and just over 12 kilometres south-east of Marche. Genes is a small village about 500 metres south of this main road and 4 kilometres south of the village of Hodister, by which it is administered. The cemetery is about 50 metres north of Genes on the east side of the road to Hodister. The Commonwealth burial is at the entrance.

Historical Information

The British Expeditionary Force was involved in the later stages of the defence of Belgium following the German invasion in May 1940, and suffered many casualties in covering the withdrawal to Dunkirk. Commonwealth forces did not return until September 1944, but in the intervening years, many airmen were shot down or crashed in raids on strategic objectives in Belgium, or while returning from missions over Germany.

Hodister Communal Cemetery contains one burial of the Second World War.
