Driving from Antwerpen follow the N1 to the village of Wuustwezel, here you turn left onto the N133 towards Essen. Go through the village of Nieuwmoer and carry on to Essen. On the edge of the town is a junction, go straight over towards the town and take the next turning on the right, Watermolenstraat. Follow this road into Horendonk. Going into the village turn right past the school into Dreveneind and the cemetery is on the left. The graves are just inside the entrance.

Historical Information

The British Expeditionary Force was involved in the later stages of the defence of Belgium following the German invasion in May 1940, and suffered many casualties in covering the withdrawal to Dunkirk. Commonwealth forces did not return until September 1944, but in the intervening years, many airmen were shot down or crashed in raids on strategic objectives in Belgium, or while returning from missions over Germany.

Essen (Horendonk) Communal Cemetery contains the graves of six Commonwealth airmen of the Second World War.
