- Identified Casualties:
Jinja is the second largest town in Uganda, near the site of the Owen Falls Dam over the outfall of the River Nile from Lake Victoria. Jinja is 80 kilometres east of Kampala on the road to Tororo and Kenya.
The Jinja Memorial, which takes the form of a screen wall within Jinja War Cemetery, commemorates over 120 war casualties of the East African Forces who died whilst serving in the 1939-1945 War, who were buried in Uganda but whose graves were found to be unmaintainable.
Jinja War Cemetery is about 3 kilometres from the centre of town and lies on the right hand side of Baxi Road, which leads from Clive Road to the Golf Course.
Jinja War Cemetery is open Monday-Friday between 06:00 and 18:00. Outside these hours the cemetery is locked with a coded padlock. If you intend to visit outside of the opening hours the code to the padlock can be obtained from our office in Kenya on 00 254 20260 4301. The opening hours of this office are Monday-Friday 08:30-12:30, 13:30-16:30 (closed weekends).
