Son of Alexander Frederick and A. Heilgers, of Bardwell. Mentioned in Despatches in the 1914-1918 War. M.A.(Oxon.), Magdalen College. M.P. for Bury St. Edmunds, 1931-1944. Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture, 1935-1936, and to the Minister of Pensions, 1937-1940. J.P. Awarded the Silver Medal of the R.S.P.C.A. for promoting the passage of the Riding Establishment Act into Law, 1939.
