Son of James Francis Herbert and Teresa Collet (nee Pilley), of "Woodleigh," Westend, Southampton. Successfully carried out the first long distance air raid into enemy territory of the war, when he bombed the Zeppelin sheds at Dusseldorf on 22nd Sept.1914.
