Letter extract from a Sikh in a cavalry regiment

From a Sikh in a cavalry regiment serving in France to a friend at Loralai - original in Gurmukhi, dated 6th March, 1915

"The war is a very stubborn business. When we arrived we came in motor cars to the trenches. At that time there was no organisation at all on our side. The trenches were full of water. Now arrangements have been made and we get spells of rest. We remain only 12 days in the trenches and then come away for a rest. The Germans seem to be weakening a little."
