Lichfield Cathedral Chorus Performance of 'We Remember Them'

Date: 23 July 2017

Time: 2.30 - 2.45 pm

On Sunday 23rd July the choir will visit the battlefields of the Somme and perform ‘We Remember Them’ on the steps of the Thiepval memorial.

The Lichfield Cathedral Chorus is a large amateur choral society based in Staffordshire and had the privilege, on 1st July 2016, of opening the Lichfield Arts Festival with a performance of Brahms’ German Requiem, accompanied by the Manchester Camerata and with soloists of national renown, to mark the centenary of the beginning of the Battle of the Somme. To give additional significance to such an important occasion we took the opportunity to commission our own work, an a cappella setting of a Jewish prayer ‘We Remember Them’ by Sylvan Kamens and Rabbi Jack Riemer, written by the Lichfield Festival’s Composer in Residence, Deborah Pritchard. The Guardian described the work as ‘a shapely and restrained piece of choral writing’ and a local reviewer praised the ‘warm blend of voices’ with which it was delivered.
