March 2016 - Work on the new Sir John Monash Centre, to be located at the Australian National Memorial site near Villers-Bretonneux in France, commenced in January 2016 and will continue through to the official opening in April 2018. During this period, there may be short periods of disruption to visitors at the site and adjacent Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Villers-Bretonneux Military cemetery.

As part of the works we have just been informed that as from Monday, 16 May for at least 6 months the car park will be closed at this site. Visitors will be directed to use the temporary car park on the other side of the Australian National Memorial. Disabled car park facilities will also be provided at weekends and outside working hours when the CWGC service entrance is closed. To add, the bus turning area on the south side of the site will remain accessible throughout the works.

Contract works to install the new paving at the Memorial will commence from 9 August - 20 October.

We currently have a problem with nests of the Oak Processionary Moth in the oak trees within the cemetery. Contact with the poisonous hairs, which are shed as a defence mechanism by the caterpillars, can cause itching, skin rashes and, less commonly, sore throats, breathing difficulties and eye problems. Please do not touch or approach the nests or caterpillars and seek medical advice should you experience any of the symptoms described.
