TANZANIA - TANGA MEMORIAL CEMETERY

The memorial is currently being replaced and unfortunately there will be no public access for one month from Monday 9 May.

INDONESIA - AMBON WAR CEMETERY

During the night of 14 May 2016, 27 Bronze plaques were stolen from graves spread across the cemetery. Local police have been informed and investigations are ongoing. Temporary markers will be placed until the plaques are recovered or replacements are manufactured.

FRANCE - VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MEMORIAL

March 2016 - Work on the new Sir John Monash Centre, to be located at the Australian National Memorial site near Villers-Bretonneux in France, commenced in January 2016 and will continue through to the official opening in April 2018. During this period, there may be short periods of disruption to visitors at the site and adjacent Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Villers-Bretonneux Military cemetery.

As part of the works we have just been informed that as from Monday, 16 May for at least 6 months the car park will be closed at this site. Visitors will be directed to use the temporary car park on the other side of the Australian National Memorial. Disabled car park facilities will also be provided at weekends and outside working hours when the CWGC service entrance is closed. To add, the bus turning area on the south side of the site will remain accessible throughout the works.

MALTA - IMTARFA MILITARY CEMETERY

Stone vaults are currently being installed at graves located in Plot 2 Row 2 & Plot 4 Row 1a & 1b and is scheduled to be completed by 20th June. There may be some disruption around these plots during this time.

FRANCE - THIEPVAL MEMORIAL

The Thiepval Memorial remains open for pre-arranged visits, which will be conducted by Commonwealth War Graves Commission staff, between 16 - 26 June and 4 - 9 July. To request a visit please contact events@cwgc.org

Please note access to both sites will not be possible between 27 June to 3 July.

FRANCE - SERRE ROAD CEMETERY NO.2

In order to ensure security at the commemorative events taking place on 1 July 2016, marking the centenary of the First Day of the Battle of the Somme, French Authorities will be enforcing a security cordon in the area prohibiting access to all except those who are attending one of the events. The cordon may be subject to change by the French authorities. A map showing the security cordon and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission sites we expect to be inaccessible as a result of the cordon from mid-afternoon on 30 June until early morning on 2 July.
