Headstone renovation works at Mont Huon Military Cemetery

18 October 2012

Due to serious deterioration of some headstones and their foundations at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, major replacement works are being undertaken to plots 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

As a result of the scale of the works, and for Health and Safety reasons, access to plots 1 - 5 will be closed until the new headstones have been replaced.

All other plots within the cemetery will remain open and can be accessed from the left hand side of the cemetery.

The structural works to plots 1 - 5 are scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2012, after which horticultural renovation will commence in 2013 to replace the grass and plants.

This is phase 2 of 2. The first phase was completed in Spring 2012 when the top half of the cemetery was completely renovated with turf purchased from the UK and the borders were replanted.

Visitors who would like to lay floral tributes to casualties within plots 1 - 5 will need to contact a member of the CWGC team on site, who will lay the flowers on the cross of sacrifice temporarily whilst the works are ongoing.

Once the casualty's headstone has been replaced, any tributes will be placed at the base of the headstone in the usual way.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused during this period, and thank you for your patience while we carry out this necessary work to maintain the cemetery for the remembrance of these casualties.
