Australian FM lays wreath at Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery

05 December 2012

The Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr has paid tribute to the Australians who died in the jungles of Papua New Guinea during the Second World War.

Mr Carr laid a wreath at Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery, which contains the graves of more than 3,000 Australians - the largest concentration of Australian war dead in the world.

The Port Moresby Memorial stands behind the cemetery and commemorates almost 750 men of the Australian Army (including Papua and New Guinea local forces), the Australian Merchant Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force who lost their lives in the operations in Papua and who have no known graves.
