VIP visitors at Kohima War Cemetery

On 14 May, Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, visited Kohima War Cemetery. She was accompanied by Addl Secy (Home Department Government of Nagaland), Mrs Lithrongela Chisihi and members of the President's entourage.

Lhouvi Sekhose, Manager at Kohima War Cemetery, welcomed the special guests and gave them a tour of the site.

During the tour, Sharmishta Mukherjee was shown a cherry tree, the Cross of Sacrifice and the Cremation Memorial. She was also shown the remains of an historic tennis court which was in the garden of the Deputy Commissioner's bungalow at the location before the cemetery was
built, and was the scene of conflict during the Japanese advancement into India in 1944.

Sharmishta Mukherjee showed great interest in the cemetery and commented on the high standard of maintenance.
