Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP appointed Chairman of the CWGC

Following the announcement of today's Cabinet reshuffle (15 July
2014), the new Secretary of State for Defence, Rt Hon Michael
Fallon MP, also becomes the Chairman of the Commonwealth War Graves
Commission (CWGC). An MP since 1983, Mr Fallon has held several
ministerial posts including, Minister for Business and Enterprise
and Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change.
He takes over the post of CWGC Chairman immediately from the
former Defence Secretary, Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, with
responsibility for the Board of Commissioners that represents the
six funding Member Governments of the United Kingdom, Canada,
Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India.
Commenting on Mr Fallon's appointment, Brian Davidson MBE, the
CWGC Director-General, said:
"On behalf of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, I
would like to welcome the Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP as the new
Chairman of the Commission. We look forward to working
closely with him at this very busy time and as we move forward into
the key centenary period.
The Commission would also like to take the opportunity to
thank the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP for his invaluable contribution
to the Commission's work over the last three years".
