New archive records available to researchers

21 January 2015

Throughout 2014, the CWGC Records and Archives Team have made accessible to the general public a large tranche of historical records relating to the cemetery and memorial sites maintained by the CWGC.

Around 23,000 cemetery files, which in many cases contain some of the earliest information about our sites, were incorporated into the CWGC archive. The records, from 1920-1955 were catalogued and rehoused in archival folders and boxes, and moved into the archive store at the CWGC's head office in Maidenhead, UK.

Consequently, these precious documents, which help shed light on the history of the CWGC sites and the work that has been undertaken in them, are now more accessible to interested researchers and members of the public. The records will also benefit from improved storage conditions, which will help ensure they are preserved and available for future generations.

More information about the CWGC archive, and details of how to arrange a visit to view our records, can be found on our Archive page.
