Sheffield War Memorial Moved Back To Original Site
27 October 2015
The Commission has relocated one of its war memorials back to its original site at Sheffield General Cemetery.
The memorial lists 39 names of those who died during the First and Second World Wars
The memorial was rebuilt in the Sheffield City Road Cemetery in the 1980s, after the original site became inaccessible and dangerous.
However, the opportunity to return it to its rightful place came about when the General Cemetery Trust began to clear areas of the cemetery.
A decision was made by the CWGC to reinstate the memorial to its rightful home.
It now stands pride of place at the entrance on Montague Street. The entire project was carried out by CWGC staff and took just under two weeks to complete.
