Hooge Crater

Rededication ceremony for Pte A Williamson and Private Francois Eveillard

11 January 2017

There will be a rededication ceremony at Hooge Crater Cemetery on 27 January 2017.

The ceremony is being held to recognise that, following the presentation of research supported by evidence, two casualties originally buried as Unknown Australian Soldiers have now been identified.

The rededication ceremony will recognise that Plot XIV, Row F, Grave 2 at Hooge Crater Cemetery has now been identified as the resting place of Private Alexander Williamson of 29th Bn. Australian Infantry and his grave has been marked accordingly. Additionally Plot XIV, Row D, Grave 9 will also be rededicated and marked with  a new headstone to Private Francois Eveillard of the 32nd Bn., Australian Infantry. Previously both Pte Williamson and Pte Eveillard were commemorated by name on the Ieper Menin Gate Memorial as having no known grave.
