Upcoming Rededication Ceremonies

02 June 2017

The following rededication services are due to be held at Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries.

Rededication Ceremony 20 June 2017

A Service of Rededication will be held on Tuesday 20 June 2017 at CWGC Hanover War Cemetery, Germany, for Flight Sergeant Frank Edward Reed.

On 27 September 1943 Flight Sergeant Reed was part of a seven man crew aboard a EH945 Stirling Aircraft of 620 Squadron, that was shot down and crashed. Although Flt Sgt Reed survived this crash he was badly injured and died either from these injuries or when the hospital was bombed soon after the crash.

The service has been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre (JCCC) and will be attended by family members, regimental representatives and local dignitaries. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission will be providing the headstone.

Rededication Ceremony 28 June 2017

A Service of Rededication will be held on Wednesday 28 June 2017 at Hune Churchyard in Denmark for Able Seaman (AB) Reginald Cecil Evenden, Royal Navy.

AB Evenden was serving on board HMS Recruit in the North Sea when it was sunk on 9 August 1917. A member of the Danish public has linked the grave of an unknown British sailor in Hune Churchyard with a casualty from HMS Recruit. The church records show that the body (which washed up on a local beach and was buried in September 1917) was wearing a gold signet ring on his left hand ring finger engraved with his initials and a tribute to his late mother who had died a year previously. These facts can only relate to AB Evenden.

The service has been organised by the JCCC and will be attended by family members, regimental representatives and local dignitaries. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission will be providing the headstone.
