670th Commission Meeting Held In Northern France
24 September 2012
The 670th meeting of the Commonwealth War Graves Commissioners
was held this month in Northern France.
From 10 - 12 September, our Commissioners followed the route of our
new Forgotten Front
Remembrance Trail, in the Pas de Calais region. They were
given the opportunity to meet a number of our staff and experience
our maintenance work first-hand.
The group's first stop was Fromelles
(Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery , the Commission's first and
only cemetery to have been built in fifty years, where they met and
talked with gardeners from our Armentieres group.
At Rue
Petillon Military Cemetery, members of our maintenance team
guided the Commissioners through some of their work, including
headstone re-engraving and technical inspections.
At Gorre
British and Indian Cemetery, the Commissioners saw our
tree team in action.
Throughout their tour the Commissioners, led by the Vice
Chairman Sir Alistair Irwin, thanked the teams for their continued
hard work and high standards of maintenance.
