CWGC at Armed Forces Day
19 June 2012
CWGC staff will be in Plymouth on Saturday June 30th
- Armed Forces Day - to meet members of
the public and to talk about the work of the Commission in the UK
and all around the world.
They hope - technology permitting - to be able to show people
how to conduct searches of the Commission's casualty and cemetery
databases. The CWGC has details of 1.7 million servicemen and women
from the Commonwealth countries who died in the two world wars -
all searchable online.
There will also be free information sheets available, about the
cemeteries and memorials maintained by the Commission; about the
battles fought in the world wars; and about the Commission's work
in the UK and around the world.
The Armed Forces Day national event will be the finale of
Plymouth's Armed Forces Week, which will include an opening
ceremony and flag raising at the Guildhall; school visits to
military establishments; an exhibition at the Central Library;
concerts and church services; and a guided tour of Ford Park Cemetery, the resting
place of almost a thousand of the fallen from the world wars.
