Back to Our Past Show, Dublin, 2012
19 October 2012
The Commission's exhibition team, together with our
friends at The War
Graves Photographic Project, enjoyed a highly successful second
visit to the Back to Our Past Show, Dublin. The event ran
from 12 - 13 October and attracted 22,000 visitors over the three
days.
A huge interest in genealogy in Ireland, coupled with over
300,000 Irishmen and women having served during the two world wars,
meant that our casualty database search facility was kept busy
throughout the weekend.
Relatives were also able to turn to the Photographic Project
to view a photo of the relevant headstone or memorial panel.
For many visitors, it was the first time they had attempted to
trace their loved ones.
Following the show, the team moved on to the Glasnevin
Museum, run by the Glasnevin Trust at Glasnevin (or Prospect) Cemetery.
An exhibition was erected at the museum, depicting both our work
in the Island or Ireland and the Commission's early history and
worldwide task.
