Commission opens new base site for mobile teams in Ieper
14 November 2012
The CWGC has opened a new site at Ieper in Belgium, where 49
staff, who make up mobile teams, will be based. The staff look
after the horticulture at all the cemeteries and memorials in the
Ypres Salient, and they also look after the hard landscaping at
most of the Commission's sites in the Northern Europe Area.
The site was opened by the Governor of West Flanders, Mr Carl
Decaluwé, and the Commonwealth war Graves Commissioner, Sir Joe
French. Sir Joe said getting the mobile teams together on one site
would be more efficient, and the project had been brought in on
budget and on time.
The Director of the Northern Europe Area of the CWGC, Ian Hussein,
said staff had been consulted in the design of the site. It
included storage for tools and equipment; showers and changing
rooms; and offices for group leaders. One of the key benefits,
though, was an expanse of land around the site which would allow
for the safe parking and manoeuvring of vehicles.
