Facelift for CWGC plot in St Pancras Cemetery in London

A CWGC plot inside one of the UK's biggest cemeteries -- which
commemorates over 500 war dead from both wars -- will see a large
refurbishment over the coming weeks.
The plot at St. Pancras Cemetery in north London is getting a
full facelift, following a visit from a CWGC maintenance team. The
plot had already been given a thorough cleaning before the Olympic
Games this Summer.
The latest work involves the cleaning of all the paving, the
Cross of Sacrifice and the memorials in the plot. The paving is
going to be raised, to allow for the laying of a new base. The
existing sandstone paving will be re-laid, and the existing clay
paving will be replaced.
Some of the clay paving has become fused and cracked over the
years. The new clay paving will match the existing as closely as
possible.
There is some copper staining on the shaft of the Cross of
Sacrifice; this is to be removed using an innovative treatment. It
is hoped that all the work at St Pancras will be completed before
Christmas.
