A new visitor centre at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, near Poperinge
in Belgium, was opened on September 21st.
At a ceremony to mark the occasion wreaths were laid at the Stone
of Remembrance in the cemetery by the Vice Chairman of the
Commission, Sir Alistair Irwin, and our newly appointed Indian
Liaison Officer, Lieutenant General Ravi Eipe. The ILO helps the
Commission team in India to resolve any high level issues affecting
the maintenance of cemeteries and memorials there.
Lieutenant General Eipe joined the Rajput Regiment of the Indian
Army in 1959 and has had a long and distinguished military career.
Recently he was appointed Military Secretary of the Indian army and
Director of Asia Centre, Bangalore, an organization focused on
relations with India's neighbours.
