Rededication service held at Nunhead (All Saints) Cemetery

A rededication service was held on Sunday 4 November at
Nunhead (All Saints) Cemetery, London.
The service which was arranged by Southwark Council,
in conjunction with the
Royal British Legion, started at the chapel before
moving on to the First World War graves for the rededication
ceremony and the placing of wreaths.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from our Australian
and Canadian offices as well as Barry Murphy our UK Area Director
and Jeff Cavell our London Regional Supervisor.
The service marked the end of a complete renovation and
reinstatement of the cemetery's 14-18 plot.
The plot contains the graves of 267 First World War casualties.
It has not been possible to mark the graves individually,
with the casualties commemorated instead, by name, on a screen wall
inside the main entrance to the cemetery.
Director of UK Area, Barry Murphy, said: "The work
completed at Nunhead is the single largest restorative project
involving a WW1 burial site ever undertaken within the United
Kingdom."
This project marks part of a wider on-going renovation programme
within the cemetery, including the installation of full
horticultural features in both the Canadian and Australian
plots.
