We are delighted to announce the release of the CWGC Somme Battlefield Companion!

The Battle of the Somme is remembered as one of the bloodiest and most important campaigns of the war.

In an offensive which lasted nearly five months, men from every part of Britain and across the British Empire took part. When the offensive halted in November, more than 1,000,000 British Empire, French and German servicemen had been wounded, captured or killed.

The cemeteries and memorials built and cared for by the CWGC are a permanent reminder of the fighting which took place.

Centred around four driving trails, our companion will take you on a journey of discovery and remembrance through the war cemeteries and memorials of the Somme.

Each trail will guide you through a different part of the battle, highlighting the key locations and visiting cemeteries and memorials which reflect the fighting which took place there.

Together, the trails form a moving journey through this landscape of memory.
