I Anzac Corps, commanded by Lieutenant-General Sir William Birdwood, comprised 1st Australian Division (Major-General H B Walker) and 2nd Australian Division (Major-General J G Legge). The Corps first saw active service on the Western Front (in the Armentières sector) in April 1916.
