British troops in the entrance to a German dugout in Dantzig Alley trench in Fricourt, JulyBritish territorial gains amounted to an advance, on the front of attack, of between 1,000 and 2,000 yards (effectively an area of approximately five square miles). But the British were not secure on the ridge as small sections of Schwaben and Stuff Redoubts and Regina Trench remained in determined German possession. Canadian Corps casualties (1st and 2nd Canadian Infantry Divisions) amounted to roughly 4,000 (dead, wounded or missing); 11th Division incurred near 3,400 casualties (dead, wounded or missing) in the period 26-30 September and 18th Division lost approximately 4,000 dead, wounded or missing.
