Across the Somme battlefields, you can find cemeteries and memorials built by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to commemorate those who fought and died here.

Some are small and intimate, others vast and imposing. Many mark important parts of the battlefield, and help to tell the story of the fighting. Among them are cemeteries first created by soldiers during the offensive, or by medical units burying men behind the lines. Memorials commemorate those who have no known grave.

Here are just a selection of the hundreds of CWGC cemeteries, burial plots and memorials associated with the 1916 Somme offensive.
