The Ypres Salient - CWGC

The British line had been successfully advanced an average distance of 1,000 yards and the centre of the ridge due east of Ypres was now almost entirely in British hands. However, success tended to be concentrated in the centre of the battle line and much hard fighting had been needed for the capture of Broodseinde by the Australians, Gravenstafel by the New Zealanders and the greater portions Poelcappelle by the 11th and 4th Divisions. The Passchendaele Ridge (and the unspoilt country beyond) was now within sight.
