The Ypres Salient - CWGC

Some terms used in these texts reflect the contemporary sources they were dawn from and need some explanation.

Linear distances (when describing the length of the front or advances made, for example) are given in miles and yards.  Heights, on the other hand (when describing topographical features) are given in metres.

The Battles of Ypres drew in forces from all over the Commonwealth and where the action is closely associated with a particular national force, it is identified by name.  The fighting force as a whole, however, is referred to throughout as British, as it would have been at the time.
