The Ypres Salient - CWGC

Arrangements were made on the evening of 23 October for the French 17th Division to take over positions occupied by the British 2nd Division, who were placed in very temporary reserve (they were despatched to the assistance of IV Corps in the afternoon of 24 October). British 1st Division troops around Langemarck were relieved by French territorial units on the evening of 24 October; heavy German shelling meant that the relief was not complete until the next morning.
