The Ypres Salient - CWGC

The last sector to be re-occupied was the five miles from the Ypres-Menin road (opposite Gheluvelt) northwards to the Ypres-Poelcapelle road beyond Zonnebeke. The French units released were then free to take part in Joffre’s proposed spring offensive in Artois. The new British line, which now extended as far south as Cuinchy (on the southern side of the La Bassée Canal), amounted to a total of thirty miles - an increase of over ten miles on their lines as held at the end of November 1914.
