The Ypres Salient - CWGC

In many respects the official name allocated by the Battles Nomenclature Committee to the series of actions taking place to the north and north-east of the Salient between 22-23 April 1915 is somewhat misleading. The British Official Historian makes the case cogently: 'Historically, there seems no reason for connecting Gravenstafel Ridge with the fighting on 22-23 April, for both the German attack and the British counter-attacks took place well to the east of the ridge...Keerselare - where the Canadian battle monument has been erected - would seem to be a more appropriate name.'
