Son of the late Hon. J. R. Benson (of the Canadian Senate) and his wife Marianne Ingersoll; husband of Lady Benson (nee Couper). Educated Upper Canada College and R.M.C., Sandhurst: Served in Fenian Raid (1866) and India, 1877-1890. Commanded Egyptian Cavalry, 1892-1894. Served as A.A.G., 6th Div. in South Africa, 1900-01 (Mentioned in Despatches). Born at St. Catharines.
