Both Singapore Memorial and Kranji War Cemetery were designed by Colin St Clair Oakes. Similar to the other architects working for the Commission in Asia, his work shows modernism.

Singapore memorial

The 12 columns of the memorial support a flat roof through which towers a single pylon. At the foot is the inscription ‘who gave their lives in Malaya and the neighbouring lands and seas’.
