War in the Air

During the First World War thousands of men took to the skies to fight. By 1916, whole squadrons of aircraft were in action. They performed many tasks from reconnaissance and observation to combat patrols and bombing raids.

Bloody April

In April 1917, the Royal Flying Corps fought for control of the skies above the French town of Arras. The month became known as ‘Bloody April'.
