CWGF secures Heritage Lottery Fund support for national digital archive project

The Commission has today announced its charitable arm the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) has received a National Lottery grant of £87,800 for the UK-wide, Lest We Forget project. The project, which is being delivered in partnership with Oxford University, has received the funding through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s First World War Then and Now programme.

Canadian Armed Forces - Nijmegen Military Contingent Remembrance Service

The Canadian Armed Forces participation in their 66th Nijmegen Marches serves as a reminder of their past and current commitment, through NATO, to European peace and security. Members of the Canadian Armed will highlight, in particular, Canada's continued and unique connection to the Netherlands. As members of the Canadian Military contingent march through regions of the Netherlands where previously Canadians fought during the Second World War, they will remember and honour their bravery and reflect on those who continue to proudly serve Canada today. A remembrance ceremony at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands will be held in the presence of other Nations participating in the 4DAAGSE International Marches.

CWGC joins forces with Shrouds of the Somme to launch First World War legacy project

In collaboration with Shrouds of the Somme, the Commission is gathering stories and images for the more than 72,000 casualties commemorated on the CWGC Thiepval Memorial, as part of a major project commemorating Armistice Day in 2018.
