Rededication service for Private John Anderson

A rededication service for Private John Anderson, of the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, will be held at 2pm at the CWGC’s Birr Cross Roads Cemetery, Belgium.

Originally buried as an unknown soldier of the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, he was killed in action on 28 May 1915, but through research his grave has now been identified. It is hoped his family will attend. Regimental support will be provided by the antecedent regiment, The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The 75th anniversary of one of the most significant battles of the Second World War will be marked at a ceremony in the CWGC’s El Alamein Cemetery and Memorial in Egypt on Saturday 21 October. The commemoration will be the largest for many years and, as the 75th, is likely to be the last on this scale. Rededication ceremonies were held for two First World War soldiers at CWGC cemeteries in Belgium today, more than 100 years after they died.

The Commission is inviting people around the world to take part in its global remembrance event on 11 November, in memory of our fallen heroes.
