Commemoration of 19 Australian soldiers

On 15 April, Allonville will honour the 19 Australian soldiers and officers killed on 31 May 1918 in the barns of the castle.

Children will put flowers on all the graves of soldiers who died during the war. There will be a pipe band, photographic exhibition and theatre.

Today (15 June) marks 100 years since Edward Harold Brittain – the brother of writer and Voluntary Aid Detachment (V.A.D.) nurse Vera Brittain – was killed in action while serving on the Italian Front.

Friday (15 June) will mark 100 years since the start of the Battle of the Piave River. Fought between 15 and 23 June 1918, the battle was a victory for the Italian army against the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
