Rededication Service for Drag (Dragoon) Jan Skuliniec

11 April 2019 , 11:00 - 12:00

A rededication ceremony will be held for Drag (Dragoon) Jan Skuliniec at the CWGC’s Bayeux War Cemetery at 11am.

Bayeux War Cemetery

Drag Skuliniec was a member of the 10th Dragoon Regiment of the Polish 1st Armoured Division when he took part in the Battle of the Falaise Pocket. Skuliniec was killed on 15 August 1944 in Normandy and buried in Vendeuvre, but his grave was incorrectly marked as that of D.R.G. Kuliniec. As no such individual could be located after the war, when his remains were concentrated to Bayeux War Cemetery, he was buried as an Unknown Polish soldier.

Following extensive research, the grave has now been confirmed as that of Drag Skuliniec. A new headstone bearing his name has been installed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission on behalf of the Polish authorities. The Commission will care for his grave in perpetuity.
