A burial ceremony will be held at the CWGC’s Guillemont Road Cemetery for an unknown soldier of the Sherwood Foresters.

His body was recovered by CWGC staff in 2018 near Ginchy, on the Somme. Although artefacts indicate that he was serving with the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment), it has not been possible to identify him despite extensive research by the UK’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre.

CWGC will install a headstone on his grave commemorating him as a soldier of the Sherwood Foresters ‘Known unto God’, and care for his grave in perpetuity.

The service will be attended by British Defence Staff, Regimental representatives, CWGC staff and local dignitaries. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
