Appeal for Relative - Captain Eric Wilson Edwards

An appeal for relatives is a search to locate the next of kin for soldiers who fell in war. Could you be connected to this Soldier?

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission and The Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre wish to contact the next of kin of Captain Eric Wilson Edwards of 6th Battalion The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment)

Eric was born on 1 June 1891 in Lee, Kent. He was the eldest son of William Edwards and Mary Wilson. Eric’s younger brother, Lewis Wilson Edwards, was born on 13 March 1895 and in 1927 married Eileen Storey Champion.

Eric was a Partner in the firm Braikenridge and Edwards Solicitors. Having been Commissioned on 1 January 1916, Eric was killed in action near Gouzeaucourt on 30 November 1917.

Eric is commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Cambrai Memorial. However, new research has shown that he is in fact buried in Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery. A rededication service will take place at his graveside in May 2019.
