We are deeply upset to confirm that a number of Commonwealth war graves have been senselessly damaged this week in Shipley (Hirst Wood) Church Burial Ground.

Yesterday, a commemorative ceremony was held at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s (CWGC) Bayeux War Ceremony, paying tribute to the soldiers that fought and died during the invasion of Normandy and the subsequent advance into France.

Yesterday, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and the Canadian government held a commemorative ceremony at the Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

5 June 1944, Allied soldiers were preparing to launch Operation Overlord, the Invasion of Normandy. Today, 75 years later, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) are at events on both sides of the channel to commemorate the soldiers who took the first steps into France.
