Corporal 5506959 Cyril Jack Robins of the 1st Battalion, the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, and formerly of the 2nd Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment, was born in the final quarter of 1915 at Battle, the son of William Thomas Robins and Jessie Margaret Valentine.

He was the brother of Charles V Robins, who was lost on HMS Hood Cyril married Clara Lydia Emily Russell, at Battle in the second quarter of 1940.

In the announcement section of the Hastings and St Leonards Observer for the 21st of February 1942, can be found the birth of a son to him and wife Clara at 11 Wellington Gardens, Battle.

The newspaper also notes that he was serving with 2nd Battalion the Hampshire Regiment.

He was killed on active service in Italy on the 14th of May 1944, aged 28, and was initially buried in a makeshift cemetery close to where he fell.

On the 2nd of July 1945, he and the other casualties buried there were were reburied in Cassino War Cemetery, Italy. Corporal Robins is remembered on the family grave in Battle Cemetery, along with his brother Charles and parents William Thomas, who died 11th of February 1951 aged 74 and Jessie Margaret, who died on the 24th of January 1945 aged 65.
