"Another war, and another young man from Lincolnshire..."

Wilfred Coy was born on 14 February 1909 in Barrowby, Lincolnshire. Prior to the war, he worked for the RAC. He had three brothers and two sisters.

He served as a military policeman and died on 19 May 1940 in France at the age of 31. His body was never found, and his name is on the Dunkirk memorial.

The family did not know of the circumstances of his death, and along with his brother, he is commemorated in the local church in Barrowby on the memorial and on the candlesticks at the altar.

'There but not there', silhouettes were purchased to commemorate both Wilfred and his brother, Arthur, and they are seen in the village pub, attend weddings and are used by the village primary school as part of their history programme.

Wilfred was a much-loved brother and son.
