Pilot Officer Edward Goodhead

Edward was educated at Wrekin College, Shropshire from 1936 to 1940.

He was accidently killed on Monday 17th August 1942, aged 20, while instructing another pilot [Flight/Sgt GW Workman] in an aircraft [Oxford DF412], which he was not flying himself, on a familiarisation flight of one and half hours from Prestwick.

When the aircraft was reported as overdue two separate aircraft were scrambled to carry out a search.

Subsequently RAF Abbotsinch, Renfrewshire, was notified by the local Police that the aircraft had come down and so an RAF recovery team was despatched who reported finding wreckage scattered over a wide area.

The remains of P/O Goodhead and F/Sgt Workman were recovered back to RAF Abbotsinch. Edward was the son of Walter Wilkie Goodhead & Dorothy Goodhead of Southam, Warwickshire and is buried in Southam (St.James) Churchyard, Warwickshire.
