“PERTH WAR CASUALTIES “TWO CITY AIRMEN MISSING: R.A.S.C. MAN IN ATHENS HOSPITAL
“Pilot-Officer Peter Gordon Anderson, only son of Mrs Margaret C. L. Anderson, 20 Balhousie Street, Perth, and of the late Mr Peter Anderson, agent of the Commercial Bank of Scotland, Ltd., Perth, has been reported missing."
“Official notification received by Mrs Anderson indicates that the bomber of which Pilot-Officer Anderson was navigator failed to return from operation on July 24 - the day on which the R.A.F. made their biggest daylight raids of the war, the Scharnhorst being amongst their objectives."
“Pilot-Officer Anderson, who is 22, joined the R.A.F. shortly after the outbreak of war. He was educated at Perth Academy and Strathallan, and prior to the war was on the staff of the York Place branch of the Commercial Bank."
“He is well-known in Rugby circles as a playing member of the Perthshire Club.”

“KILLED IN DAYLIGHT RAID - PERTH AIRMAN WHO WAS POSTED MISSING"
“A young Perth airman formerly reported missing on a bombing flight is now officially presumed to have lost his life."

Handley Page Hampden 1, AE225, PL- , N., based at RAF Luffenham, Rutland, on an operational mission to Brest was shot down near Ploudalmezau, France. All four crew members were killed and are buried together in Ploudalmézau Communal Cemetery, France.
The other three crew members were: Sergeant Harold Edwin Blundell, age 21, son of Benjamin George and Kate Lavinia Annie Blundell, of Southgate, Middlesex. Sergeant Albert Bertram Cooper, age 22, son of George and Kate Cooper, of King's Heath, Birmingham. Sergeant Donald Parkin, age 21, son of Henry and Annie Parkin, of Firth Park, Sheffield.
