Background

Frederick Tucker was born on 27 February, 1872, at Sunderland, in Ontario, Canada, the son of Mary Tucker, of Peterboro in Ontario. Frederick Tucker was unmarried and resided at Parry Sound in Ontario, where he was employed as a tailor.

Frederick Tucker enlisted at Parry Sound, in Ontario, on 18 April, 1916, in the Canadian Infantry, as a private, no. 657917, and was posted to the 162nd Battalion. He was described as being: 5' 4¾" tall; with black hair; brown eyes; a fair complexion; weighing 145 lbs; and with a chest measurement of 32"/35½".

Frederick Tucker died at Sundridge in Ontario on 4 July, 1916, aged 44. He had served for just 77 days. The rank shown on his private memorial is that of bandsman.

Commemorations
Private Frederick Tucker lies buried at Strong Township Cemetery, in Sundridge, Ontario, Canada, with his grave marked by a private memorial, erected by his comrades, and inscribed: 'Gone but not Forgotten'. He is also commemorated in the Canadian World War One Book of Remembrance.

Medals

Frederick Tucker's service did not earn him any medals as he had not left Canada. However, his mother would have been entitled to have received the Canadian Memorial Cross and a memorial plaque and scroll to commemorate his sacrifice.
