
PRIVATE JAMES WILSON Service Number: 635 King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) 1st/5th Bn. Died 08 January 1918 Age 46 years old, Grave F. NC. 113.
Born in Lancaster in 1872, James was educated at St Thomas’ school. He enlisted in the Regular Army (KOSB) in 1891, he was medically discharged in 1898. James enlisted in the volunteers briefly in 1900-01. He worked at White Cross mills in the meantime, living in Main Street Skerton.
James enlisted in the 1/5th Kings Own in 1914 at Barrow and went overseas with them in February 1915, being later attached to the Labour Corps.
He suffered increasing bouts of ill health and was sent back from the front in 1917.
He died in Woking military hospital in January 1918 of Bronchitis and Kidney problems.
